The Enhanced Games are set to take place in Las Vegas on 24 May, and the weightlifting lineup has already got people talking. One of the names in the mix is Yoni Andica, an internationally recognised lifter. 

If you’ve seen his name on the athlete list and wanted to know a bit more about him, here are our top 3 facts that you should know.

He’s a Colombian international weightlifter

Yoni Andica is a Colombian weightlifter who was born on 26 August 1987, so he’s bringing a ton of experience to the games. 

He’s represented Colombia in international competition several times, so he’s no stranger to the spotlight. .

Which means he’ll be right at home at the Enhanced Games competing against other athletes from around the world at the Las Vegas event.

He won South American Games gold for Colombia

Yoni Andica hasn’t just represented Colombia in the past, he’s won impressive titles for the county too.

At the 2010 South American Games in Medellín he won gold in the men’s 77 kg class for Colombia.

He finished with a 331 kg total, made up of a 146 kg snatch and a 185 kg clean and jerk, so we’re talking about a pretty impressive performance too. 

He’s also earned himself a Pan American Championships bronze medal, a South American Games silver medal, and an Ibero American Championships silver medal, which tells you a lot about the level he’s competed at.

He’s competed in more than one weight class

He hasn’t only lifted in one weight class either. Earlier in his career Yoni Andica competed at 77 kg, and later on he also appeared in the 81 kg category.

Anyone who knows weightlifting will know the work that goes into moving weight classes, so that could work in his favour at the Enhanced Games. It suggests he’s had to adapt, make changes, and compete under different conditions across his career, which could give him a bit more range than someone who’s only ever stayed in one lane.
